A Little Of Our Background
C-MEE began in the Autumn of 2003 to help individuals who struggled to maintain their homes and gardens for a number of reasons:
To help address this COMMUNITY MAINTENANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENTERPRISE PROJECT (C-MEE) emerged. Originally a Community Group, C-MEE has grown into a social enterprise that delivers a variety of services to disadvantaged or isolated members of the community, as well as providing a platform for training and volunteering to those facing multiple barriers to unemployment. We are a Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable status.
C-MEE currently holds a database of around 3000 customers, many of whom are elderly or infirm. By utilising younger community members to assist the older group, pre-conceptions are challenged and links are made. We are a member of Age Scotland and as such, are linked into that network, enabling us to address issues relevant at a local and national level.
Over the years we've received grants form those listed below. However, in 2015 we were very fortunate to receive a much welcome grant from The Big Lottery Fund - Investing in Communities. This is specifically for our training programme and incorporates partnership with Simply Wee County Catering. Between the two organisations we offer training in gardening, decorating, small repairs, handyman services, office admin and catering/hospitality. This has proved to be very successful and popular. The funded programme runs until August 2018. Our gratitude to The Big Lottery is immeasurable and we are very thankful to them for the faith they have placed in us.
We believe our success is entirely down to team work and by integrating our trainees fully within the structure of the organisation. We help to bring about a change in mindset that goes on to flourish; developing aspiration and expectations where none existed and building self-esteem and personal satisfaction.
C-MEE is dedicated to building further partnerships whilst remaining committed to etching our social aims into all that we do. C-MEE has successfully completed contracts worthy of commercial status. This element is crucial to our future sustainability, thus allowing the organisation to continue with the work it was initially set up to do:
To provide employment training opportunities to those facing barriers to employment and who are furthest from the job market; to provide disadvantaged, isolated members of the community with an affordable and professional service whilst removing barriers, easing exclusion and promoting inclusion.
- Unemployment and lack of disposable income
- Being elderly or physically unfit
- Single parent households
- Lack of access to resources
- Lack of family or social links
